Does Life 'happen to you'?

Have you ever had one of those days when everything seems to go wrong?
One difficult conversation becomes two. One unexpected setback becomes three. By the end of the day, it feels as though life has taken the wheel and you're simply hanging on. It happens to all of us. The real danger isn't the difficult day. It's the story we quietly begin to tell ourselves.
"Nothing is going my way.", "Why does this always happen to me?", "I have no control."
And without realizing it, we slowly hand over the steering wheel of our lives to our circumstances. But what if that story isn't true? What if life doesn't happen to us nearly as often as it responds through us?
You may not get to choose every challenge that arrives at your door. But you always get to choose what deserves your attention, your energy and your next decision.
That choice is where leadership begins.
Not over people.
Over yourself.
The most fulfilled people I know don't have fewer problems. They simply refuse to let those problems become the centre of their world. They continue to invest in the parts of life that matter.
Their health. Their relationships. Their learning. Their purpose. Their joy. Because they understand something many of us forget. A meaningful life is rarely built by solving one problem after another. It's built by intentionally nurturing what matters most—even while life is imperfect.
Years ago, I came across a simple coaching tool called the Wheel of Life.
It isn't powerful because it gives you answers. It's powerful because it asks a better question. Instead of focusing on what's going wrong... it helps you see everything that is already part of your life.
Career. Family. Health. Finances. Personal growth. Relationships. Fun. Contribution.
When you see them together, Life becomes less like a crisis...and more like a design.. The wheel doesn't judge you.It simply reflects you. There is no perfect score. It's simply a mirror. And sometimes, a mirror is exactly what we need.
Because awareness always comes before change. You cannot intentionally redesign a life you've never intentionally observed.
So if life feels overwhelming right now... pause. Take an honest look at the different areas of your life. Not to criticise yourself. Not to compare yourself with anyone else. Simply to notice.
Where are you thriving? Where have you been running on empty? What deserves a little more of your attention?
Small, intentional choices made consistently have a remarkable way of changing the direction of a life. You don't have to control everything. You just have to take back the steering wheel.
The question is...
Will you spend your days reacting to life...or intentionally creating it?
Reflection
Imagine your life as a wheel with the areas that matter most to you.
If you scored each one honestly today... Which area would surprise you the most? Which one have you been neglecting while trying to fix everything else?
And finally...
If someone looked at your calendar and your choices over the last three months...Would they know what truly matters to you?
