Where does Pain Live

Pain is an extraordinary shape-shifter. Ignore it, and it rarely disappears. It simply finds another place to live.

Sometimes it hides behind irritation. Sometimes behind anger. Sometimes behind perfectionism. Sometimes behind ambition. Sometimes behind a smile so convincing that even we begin to believe it.

Pain doesn't always look like pain. Often... it looks like personality. Pain can also travel. Pain doesn't only live in the mind. It can settle in the body. . It echoes through our thoughts. It quietly shapes our reactions long after we've forgotten what first hurt us.

It can shape the way we react long after we've forgotten what first hurt us.

Fortunately, pain loses much of its power the moment we stop running from it.

Meet it.

Healing rarely begins with courage. It begins with honesty. Not, "How do I get rid of this?" But, "What is this trying to tell me?"

The first time we truly meet our pain is usually not in a dramatic breakthrough. It's in a quiet moment of honesty. "You're here.", "I don't fully understand you yet.", "But I'm willing to listen."

The second step is to accept that its ok to have pain living in us. For now. It's almost like having a conversation with pain saying, “Ok. So.. hmmm.. you’re here. Alright, let’s see what we can do about you”.

Once this realization has sunk in, we must trust ourselves and go deeper and deeper into the chasm of Whys? Instead of pushing the feeling away, become curious.

Ask: Why did this affect me so deeply?

What story am I telling myself?

What am I protecting?

What am I afraid might be true?

The goal isn't to justify your pain.

The goal is to understand it.

Keep asking "Why?" with kindness. Not once. Not twice.

As many times as it takes until you reach the belief beneath the emotion.

And then comes the question that changes everything. The question is - Do I want to feel this way? You cannot heal what you refuse to acknowledge. Every emotion carries information. Ignore it... and it returns louder.

Listen to it...and it begins to soften. From here on, the choice will be yours. If you don’t want to feel this way, then nothing and no one can stop you from leaving this feeling behind. From bursting it open into a million tiny particles and making it disappear.

Every time you choose awareness over avoidance...pain loses a little more of its hold.

So, Pl believe. Always Believe. In you.

All of us can do this. But not without the first step.

Pain isn't your enemy. It's your messenger.

Ignore the message... and it returns louder.

Listen... and it no longer needs to shout.

The question isn't whether pain exists. The question is...

Will you listen before it finds another place to live?

Reflection

Think about one behaviour in yourself that frustrates you.

Impatience.

Defensiveness.

Overthinking.

People-pleasing.

Perfectionism.

Now ask yourself:

Is this who I am....or is this where my pain chose to live?

If the pain healed... what would remain?
